The third volume of the Subseciva Groningana contains the papers presented at the symposium which was held in Groningen, from 1st to 4th June 1988, on the occasoin of the completion of a new edition of the Basilica cum Scholiis. The first of the ten papers, dr Lokin's opening speech, serves as an introduction to the origo et progressus of the Groningen Basilica edition. The other nine speakers (in alphabetical order: L. Burgmann, M.Th Fögen, G.Lanata, C. Matheeussen, P.E. Pieler, A. Schminck, B.H. Stolte, Sp. N. Troianos and N. van der Wal) dealt with various aspects of the Basilica, from the difficulties that confronted the editors when constituting their text to the role the Basilica played - or rather in the end failed to play - in the newly independent Kingdom of Greece in the nineteenth century. The invited speakers were given a free hand in selecting their subject; their contributions give evidence of the wide range of questions which arise from the Basilica. Some of the answers given were made possible for the first time by the completion of a modern critical edition |
